ICLEI delivers ecoBUDGET training at World Urban Forum 5
ICLEI’s International Training Centre (ITC), presented a training event entitled "How cities approach ecosystems and poverty with ecoBUDGET", to a packed room at this year’s World Urban Forum 5. The event, led by Monika Zimmermann, director of the ITC, looked to introduce the ecoBUDGET system and discuss how to integrate ecosystems and poverty alleviation into city development strategies.
The World Urban Forum was established by the United Nations (UN), to examine the problems of rapid urbanisation and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies. The theme of this year’s forum was "The Right to the City", with participants from all levels of society coming together in one of the most open gatherings of its kind on the international stage.
The ecoBUDGET training event at the Forum was a result of a partnership formed between ICLEI and UN-HABITAT at last year’s ICLEI World Congress in Edmonton (Canada). Case studies from ICLEI member cities Växjö (Sweden) and Tubigon (Philippines) were used to show the process of implementing ecoBUDGET and its impact on the cities in question.
